Steel Bar achieves a surface hardness of at least about 477 BHN and a core hardness of about 450 BHN through hardening and quenching processes. Drilling, countersinking, drilling, cutting, milling and general machining can be difficult due to their high hardness.

 

Although not usually intended for structural purposes, the AR500 can be welded using low hydrogen production electrodes. In addition, the AR500 premium plate grade exhibits excellent hardenability, improved formability and weldability when heat treated.
